London taxi-driver John Smith has two wives. For years he has successfully managed to keep them apart. One wife believes he works day duty, and the other believes he works night duty, which gives him time to spend with each of them.

His plan works perfectly until one day he has a taxi accident and is taken home to the wrong wife at the wrong time. The policeman's questions put him at risk of having his secret blown, and it looks like he might lose both wives. John enlists the help of a friend to keep his two wives apart and prevent them from learning about the other. As the show goes on, the situtations get more and more complicated. This British farce is full of mistaken identity and characters pretending to be what they are not.
