Andrew Lloyd Webber's first musical takes the Biblical story of Joseph and his 11 brothers and retells it using a pastiche of American pop music styles..

Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat retells the Biblical story of Joseph as a handsome young man who is his father's favorite child, able to

 interpret dreams, and the bearer of an amazing coat. These facts lead Joseph's 11 brothers to become insatiably jealous. Thus, they sell Joseph into slavery to some passing Ishmaelites. Joseph, however, will not be put down so easily.
